Acne can be classifieds into various types based on the symptoms. Lets look at three different types of acne.
Acne Vulgaris
This is the most common type of acne, it is characterized as a superficial disease, affecting the hair follicles and oil secreting glands of the skin. We do not know the exact cause, but genetic disposition, hormonal dysfunction and an over active sebum are strongly suspected.
Factor that increase the riskof this type of acne are use of cosmetics, stress, steroids and some medications, oral contraceptives, skin irritants and the climate.
Acne vulgaris usually begins at puberty, and can affect upto 80% of adolescents in some for or the other. Boys are more prone, but girls have a more sever and prolonged case when they do get it.
Its visible symptoms are blackheads, whiteheads and inflammation, or redness.
Acne vulgaris is the least severe form of acne and when we say “acne” we normally mean “acne vulgaris”. This type of acne is most common around the face, neck, chest and upper back area.
Acne Rosacea
This type of acne is commonly known as ” adult acne”. This is usually a long term problem and progresses with time, in short a more chronic form of acne. The symptom is acne like eruptions on the face, with related facial flushing. This type of acne is more common in the middle aged and older adults.
Menopausal and faired skinned women are more prone to rosacea. Rosacea also seems to have some genetic tendency, and seems to run in some families more often.
It causes redness in the central region of the face and also pimples. Often, blood vessels under the skin enlarge and show through the skin as small red lines. Also, the skin may be swollen and feel warm.
Women with Rosacea don’t have the same lesions as seen with common acne. They may have flushing of the face, when they are hot, drink alcohol or hot drinks, or eat spicy foods. This flushing causes the face to appear red. In the most severe form, this redness does not go away. The eyes may become swollen and nodules in the skin may be painful.
Acne Conglobata
This type of acne is of a more sever form, with cyst formation and possibility of scarring. The cause of this type of acne is still not known, but the general medical opinion is that it is genetic related and runs in families. Most sufferers inherit it from their parents.
Some elements are also know to trigger acne conglobata. Toxic gases like halogens and dioxins and anabolic steroids can cause severe acne in some people. Discontinuing a course of testosterone may also trigger it.
It is characterized by swelling and pain in the lesions with severe inflammation and sensitivity. At times the cysts may erupt and the lesions ooze out also. This type of acne needs treatment over time and is not easy to get rid of.
That covers our basic introduction to the three basic types of acne. Often it is difficult to distinguish between these types without the help a specialist. Picking a natural herbal treatment is also difficult. Our acne treatment reviews could help you pick a suitable product but be sure to ask your doctor if you could use these as a supplementary acne treatment for longer lasting results.
